Birth and Early LifeBorn on July 6, 1947, in Arizona, John Rambo is the protagonist of both David Morrell's novel and the subsequent film series.
Of mixed descent, Rambo has either a Navajo father or mother, depending on the source (Morrell's novel depicts his mother as Native American, while the film series establishes his father as Navajo).
Orphaned at a young age, Rambo dropped out of school and joined the army at 17.
He served two tours in Vietnam, witnessing the horrors of war firsthand.
