Tsarevich Alexei Timeline

1904 (12th August)

Tsarevich Alexei Nikolaevich was born to Tsar Nicholas II of Russia and his wife Alexandra, formerly Alix of Hesse at the Peterhof Palace, St Petersburg.

Alexei was the couple’s fifth child, his sisters Olga, Tatiana, Maria and Anastasia had been born earlier. Nicholas and Alexandra were delighted with the arrival of their long-awaited son and heir. It was soon discovered that he had haemophilia, a disease that affects the ability of blood to clot, for which there was no cure.

The disease was kept a secret from the outside world.

1904 (3rd September)

Tsarevich Alexei was christened in the Peterhof Palace chapel.

1905 (1st November)

The holy man Grigory Rasputin was introduced to the Royal family he told Alexandra that he had the power to heal Alexei.

1907 (Spring)

Tsarevich Alexei was taken ill due to his haemophilia.

Rasputin was summoned and he managed to stop the bleeding.
